Have you ever felt as though you give and give
And yet it’s not enough?
Or that you’re screaming at a deaf world,
And it’s just bleeding you to make you tough?
Well maybe you understand the feel of cold
Tears tracing scar lines down your cheeks,
Or possibly a hollow, dismal feeling
When you haven’t seen me in weeks?
No? Well how about that sudden fear
When the last warm rays of the sun go down,
Or, in contrast, that breathless excitement
When the night life lights up the town?
How about that hitch in your throat,
When you see a man in need?
Or don’t you get a hiccup in your heart
When an innocence falls prey to greed?
But no, you don’t know those flutters and stabs
And that’s why we broke up
Because you don’t feel a single thing,
And I feel it all too much.
