The Meaning of Life

Lean in closely, listen closer
I will not say these words again,
For prying ears and flapping mouths
Will cheapen all that we hold dear.
Your life is fragile as a candle,
One small breath will blow it out.
Your heart is fragile as a wine glass,
Drop it once and it will shatter.
Your talent is fragile as an ice cube,
Left to itself, it will melt away.
Your dreams are fragile as a recipe,
Add too much of one thing and they are ruined.
Your love is like a little song bird,
Squeeze too tightly and it will suffocate. For I will not say these words again.
All these things you need take heed,
For in them find the meaning of life.

Another Christmas Day poem, written while I was listening to my Grandma in the kitchen, lol, and listening to me 100-year-old Great Aunt tell me about her apartment for the thousandth time.
