She Fears

She used to fear slipping
Now she fears dripping
Tripping the wire
Drifting away like so many others
Dripping like all the lost mothers
And fathers and sisters and brothers
All those lost others who seem so alone
And yet reach out with sharp fingers
And stabbing words to drag her down
To pull her down.
To bring her down
Dripping like water to land against something hard
And there to shatter to pieces
Pieces too small to ever fix.
But is she broken?
Perhaps someday, but not now
Because her fear keeps her strong
And her faith makes her strong
And her ideas make her wrong
Wrong enough that the world turns away
And she's left with her fears
Of Slipping
Of Dripping
Of Tripping the wire.
