Once upon a time, there was a butterfly
One minute I'm looking at pictures of butterflies, the next minute this happens.
A pretty, dainty little butterfly
Except that she wasn’t pretty
Because she didn’t have color.
She was just black. and. white.
That was it.
And while the rest of the butterflies were
Blues. Pinks. Reds. Purples. Yellows. Oranges.
She was just black. and. white.
And everyone told her that was okay,
Because you don’t have to be pretty to be pretty
Because there’s always the inside
But she figured she was probably black and white
On the inside, too.
I’m not going to tell you that some predator came
One that only ate butterflies in bright colors
And the ugly butterfly was the only one that survived
Because, come on, life isn’t that predictable.
But I will tell you that she never believed she was pretty
So she was unhappy
And it was her own fault
Because you don’t have to be pretty to be pretty.
