Let's Live A Little

Let’s live a little
You and I
Let’s flee from the end of the day.
Drop shovels and documents, needles and swords,
Grab hands and run like there’s no tomorrow.

For why is there one? Do we need a tomorrow? Does it have to come? Must it?
Shall we forever live for the next day, put off all things til the next day?
Sigh with longing ‘Oh tomorrow, tomorrow I shall–”
And yet never, ever, ever reach that tomorrow?
Will we forever push tomorrow just beyond our finger tips?

Why? Give me a reason!
Why must tomorrow be tomorrow and not today?
Why hope for tomorrow when we have already been blessed with today?
These things need not wait; nothing need wait!
Tomorrow may be the end, tomorrow may not,
But what does it matter?
Today should be all we need.
So let’s live a little
You and I
Let’s flee from the end of the day.
